BATON ROUGE – Louisiana-Lafayette’s Christi Orgeron and LSU’s Cody Trahan picked up Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week Wednesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A sophomore outfielder for the Cajuns, Orgeron posted 11 hits en route to a .647 batting average and racked up 14 RBIs on seven extra base hits highlighted by a trio of home runs. She led the Cajuns to a 4-1 week sparked by a two homer, seven RBI-performance against Southern Miss. The New Orleans native recorded hits in all five games to push her hitting streak to seven games as ULL claimed the Razorback Invitational title hosted by Arkansas.
A senior pitcher for the Tigers, Trahan continued her assault in non-conference action. She tallied a pair of wins and earned All-Tournament honors at the Purple & Gold Challenge. The Little Cypress, Texas product didn’t allow a run in her 9.1 innings of work and posted five strikeouts over five innings in a complete-game win over Campbell, a 2009 NCAA Regional squad. Trahan fired a flawless 4.1 frames of relief against Syracuse and sat down all 13 batters she faced after entering the game with the bases loaded in a 2-2 tie.
It’s the third career weekly award for Trahan and first for Orgeron from the LSWA.
