LAFAYETTE -- Memorial services will be Saturday for Dr. Frans Amelinckx, longtime head of the Department of Romance Languages at ULL. He died March 28 at age 77.
Amelinckx was named Distinguished Professor in Francophone Studies and, on retirement, professor emeritus in that field.
He was a native of Belgium and a Korean War veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, two sons and a daughter.
Fountain Memorial is in charge of arrangements.
Former Evangeline assessor
VILLE PLATTE -- Memorial services for Jesse J. Johnson, a banker, rancher and former Evangeline Parish assessor, will be Saturday. Johnson died April 1 at age 87.
He was valedictorian of the Ville Platte High School Class of 1940 and first company commander of the Ville Platte National Guard unit. He was a Korean War veteran and retired from the guard with the rank of colonel.
He was assessor for eight years, then joined American Security Bank. At age 83 he received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from LSU.
Survivors include his wife Margaret and four daughters.
Food company executive
OPELOUSAS -- Services will be Thursday for Alexander Chachere, president and CEO of Tony Chachere Creole Foods from 1982-2000. He died April 6 at age 77.
Prior to 1982, he operated Tony Chachere & Sons Insurance Agency. He was Louisiana Small Business Person of the Year in 1991 and remained on the board of the food company until his death.
Survivors include two daughters.
