However, Sam Houston rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to slip past the Lady Pios, 6-3.
Notre Dame scored two first inning runs when Alex Boulet walked to lead off the game and scored on a double down the third base line by Taylor Boulet that bounced over the bag and into the left field corner.
Taylor Boulet later scored to make it 2-0 but the Pios had runners at second and third with no outs and couldn’t get another run home.
The Lady Pios led 2-1 in the fifth when Sam Houston pieced together a hit batter, a bad hop error and four hits to take a 6-2 lead.
Notre Dame scratched a single run in the top of the seventh but had little success against Sam Houston pitcher Bailey Corbello. The freshman right hander dazzled the Pios with an assortment of breaking balls, off speed pitches and rise balls to go along with an impressive fastball and logged 13 strikeouts against the District 5-3A Champs.
Notre Dame will take the No. 6 seed into the opening round of the state playoffs.
The Lady Pios will host Church Point Monday at 6 o’clock in the first round with the winner advancing to take on either North DeSoto or Brusly on Thursday.
