Registrar of Voters Lucas Buller would like to take this opportunity to announce his office is participating in Voter Education Week, Monday, July 14, through July 18. This week is designed to encourage citizens to register to vote and to bring their voting records up-to-date.

In recognition of this week, Buller said his office will be conducting voter registration campaigns to educate the public about the importance of voting. Buller said he uses the following statement as an educational platform for voters. “Vote and the choice is yours; don’t vote and the choice is others. Register to vote or you have no choice.” He is encouraging all eligible citizens to exercise their right as voters.

Buller said reminders have been sent to the high schools and anyone 17 years of age or who will be 18 on or before the upcoming fall elections can register to vote. They can do this either by contacting their principal’s office or his office to register.

Buller also encourages parish residents to register by visiting registration sites in the parish. On the first Wednesday of the month, a staff member is at the Basile Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A staff member is also at the Mamou Library every Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Buller said this is the fifth year his office has participated in this statewide voter education week.

His office also sent registration cards and brochures to various places around the parish, including post offices, banks, city halls, nursing homes, schools and libraries to assist in registering or making changes to party, name or address.

Anyone needing more information, can call the registrar at 363-5538 or email at rovevangeline@ elections.state.ls.us.

Buller also encourages those 17 and older to become a poll worker. Call the clerk of court’s office at 363-5671 for more information.
