Henderson – Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for Frank James “Buck” Meche, 84, who passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Entombment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum.

Rev. Father Chanh Nguyen officiated at the funeral Mass.

Mr. Meche was a dedicated and loving husband and father. He was a veteran of World War II having honorably served his country in the United States Army. “Buck,” as he was known by his family and friends, was a lifelong fisherman who loved to hunt and was the owner and vice president of the Meche Hunting Club in Henderson. Frank never met a stranger and will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

Survivors include four sons, Steven Meche and his wife Joyce of Breaux Bridge, Andrew Meche, Eugene Meche, and Jody Meche and his wife Tracey, all of Henderson; four daughters, Linda Whitehead of Holden, Genell Bodoin and her husband Roy of Butte LaRose, Jo Ann Wiser and her husband Hal of Christiana, Tenn., and Marie Girouard and her husband Nathan of Cecilia; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Theriot Meche; his parents, Willie and Eve McDemsey Meche; two sisters, Mary Smith and Odile Ortis; and a son-in-law, Norman Whitehead.

Pallbearers were his four sons, Steven, Andrew, Eugene and Jody Meche, Casey Bodoin, and Frank Meche Jr.

Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
