The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office discovered a three-foot marijuana plant growing at a residence in Pine Prairie Friday evening, August 22.<!--break-->

Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives, had received information suggesting a resident in Pine Prairie was cultivating marijuana. Based on the information, he contacted Pine Prairie Officer Ron Carrier and authorities arrived at the home of Robert Adams, 50 (dob 7-26-58), 1816 Wilson Campbell Road, and located a live marijuana plant. Dupre said authorities believe Adams was either selling marijuana or in the process of selling it. He was taken into custody and booked in the parish jail on charges of cultivation of marijuana. His bond was set at $7,500.

“We also looked into a couple of other homes in Pine Prairie,” Dupre said, “where a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia were found in each residence. We are looking for the dealers. Our investigation is continuing.”

Dupre said sometimes he hears someone say marijuana should be legalized, but in reality it is against the law and authorities can’t turn their heads. He said they will continue combating narcotics in the parish.

If anyone sees anything suspicious or witnesses any illegal activities, they are encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 363-2161.
