Hurricane Gustav raked through St. Martin Parish downing trees and electrical lines and flattening -- but not severely -- stands of sugar cane. The early report, as first responders were making their way across the parish, is of scattered, moderate damage. No serious injuries have yet come to light.

Parish Officials have established the following phone number for residents of St. Martin Parish to call regarding damages to their property, it is as follows: 394-2811. We are asking residents to call this number to report any structural damages related to the storm. In addition, the curfew for St. Martin Parish was lifted at 6 a.m. this morning.

Officials are asking residents of St.Martin Parish to conserve water due to generator problems throughout the parish. In Breaux Bridge, the water plant generator was knocked out of service. Residents of Breaux Bridge should call 332-8517 for more information.
