AMITE – Coaches usually get a little nervous when Homecoming shows up on their schedule. There is the parade, the dance and all the distractions that are associated with all schools when they host Homecoming Games.

The Amite Warriors looked a little rusty on offense but their defense looked to be in mid season form as the Warriors posted their second straight shutout with a 29-0 win over the Glen Oaks Panthers.

“We did not play our best on offense but this defense has been playing solid football and we have to keep doing it every week,” said Amite Coach Alden Foster. The Amite Warriors have outscored their opponents 105-6 in their first three games and have allowed only one touchdown in twelve quarters of football.

Amite made too many mistakes and had too many penalties but they still overcame a sluggish start to put up 29 points against the Panthers. The Warriors racked up 317-yards of total offense and allowed just 17 total yards.

“Glen Oaks always has some good players and for us to shut them down like that was very encouraging to see,” Foster said. Glen Oaks and none of the Warriors first three opponents have been able to move the ball with success against the Amite Defense.

The Warriors kept the Panthers in check as they allowed the Panthers minus – 23-yards rushing on twenty-eight carries. Amite’s Defense picked off three passes and recovered two fumbles in the game as well.

After a scoreless first quarter the Warriors got on the board in the second when Brandon Mitchell scored on a two-yard run. Sean Slaven tacked on the PAT and the Warriors led 7-0 in the second quarter.

The Warriors then began to open things up and started to distance themselves from the Panthers later in the half. Brandon Mitchell connected with Rodriguez Sibley on a 47-yards touchdown to give Amite a 13-0 halftime lead.

The Warriors also earned four points on two safetys in the game. Oliver Jackson would help add to the Warriors lead in the fourth quarter when he scored on a three-yard run and Amite finished the night with a deep pass from Mitchell to Sibley for 85-yards and the Warriors went on to win the game 29-0.

Amite is now 3-0 on the season and ranked 4th in Class 3A. The Warriors will host the St. Helena Central Hawks this Friday Night in Amite. The Hawks are 2-1 and ranked 10th in Class 2A. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at R.W. Russell Memorial Stadium in Amite.
