Airborne division association sets anniversary

The Acadiana Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association will celebrate its 29th anniversary banquet on Saturday Jan.10, 2009 at Chef Roy’s restaurant in Rayne at 6:00 p.m. for the social hour, banquet at 7:00 p.m.

The guest speaker for the banquet will be Brigadier General James C. Yarbrough commanding general of the JRTC and Ft. Polk. General Yarbrough has served in the 101st Airborne Division, the 82nd Airborne Division, the 7501 Infantry Regiment (Airborne Rangers) and has commanded the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

Chapter members attending will include veterans of the 82nd, 101st 17th, and I1th Airborne Divisions. Additional units represented include the 187th ARCT (Korea), the 173rd Brigade (Vietnam), and many Special Force’s veterans from a number of the SF groups.

The Chapter’s veterans service includes WW 11, Korea, the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf War (Desert Storm) and veterans from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
