Evangeline Central High School had their first annual See You at the Pole meeting September 24. <!--break-->Since 1990, students from all over the world have been meeting at the school flagpole on the fourth Wednesday of September to pray for current issues. Sergeant Ricky Thomas from the National Guard started the outdoor meeting by leading students Jasper Neville, T. J. Allen, and Malcolm Sias in the raising of the flag. Once the flag was up, Revella Lafleur led students and faculty in the Pledge of Allegiance. A brief history of See You at the Pole was given by Brittany Bergeron followed by prayers for our country, community, school and students who were about to take their G.E.D. Prequalifying Test. The prayers were said by Johnathan Dardeau, Brittany Landry, Justin Lalonde and Ronnica Fontenot respectively. Reverend Chip Holmes closed the prayer time by praying for students, faculty, and the community. Principal David Rivera closed the meeting by encouraging students to always do their best. The school’s motto is “Aim high and go beyond!” Dianna Johnson, JAG Career Specialist and Rayne Holmes helped students coordinate the event. This year’s See You at the Pole for Evangeline Central was sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS), which is also a “first” for the school. Students on campus are excited about the new developments within the school.
