And event-planning is already well under way in Eunice.
After an early holiday last year, Fat Tuesday is almost a month later in 2008, falling on Feb. 24, the day before Ash Wednesday.
Parade schedules are firm, as are street dance times and other events leading up to the annual celebration.
Open-air dances begin on Friday night, Feb. 20 and continue nightly through Mardi Gras, including Lundi Gras dancing on Monday, Feb. 23, beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until the final note plays sometime late Monday night.
Additionally, there will be special music at Nick's on 2nd Street.
On Saturday, Feb. 21 the Mardi Gra run for children ages 13-17 will be held, concluding with its parade in the historic district.
On Sunday, Feb. 22, the run for children ages 12 and under will be held, concluding with a parade.

Also on Sunday, an old-time boucherie will be held on City Hall Square.
Activities continue to build on Monday, with bands and dances, including the annual Senior Citizen's gala at Northwest Community Center.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, the famous Eunice Mardi Gras Association Courir will begin roll at 8 a.m., venturing into the countryside before returning in mid-afternoon for a parade before thousands of spectators.
