CROWLEY – It may be early in District 5-AAA competition, but tonight’s matchup between Notre Dame and Crowley High is a pivotal one for both squads.

Coach Derrick Boone’s Crowley Gents enter tonight’s contest with an overall record of 13-8, but they are 0-1 in league play following a 44-39 loss to Church Point Tuesday. Notre Dame (8-13) also came up short in its district opener, falling to Rayne, 61-39.

The girls’ game has just as much meaning with both teams sitting at 1-1 in league play.

Notre Dame’s Lady Pios have been more consistent on the year, winning 12 of their 19 games while the CHS Ladies enter at 8-8 on the season.

The Lady Pios are coming off a 52-17 dismantling of Rayne following a tough home loss to Northwest last week.

The CHS Ladies also have a victory over Rayne but dropped their last league tilt to Church Point Tuesday, 57-41.

In other local games of interest, Midland will travel to Bell City to take on the Bruins in a pair of District 7-B contests.

Midland’s Rebels currently sit at 23-5 overall and 3-0 in district play.

Midland has played Bell City twice already, falling to the Bruins, 43-39, in the Hathaway Tournament on Oct. 23 and then returning the favor (52-35) a week later in the finals of the Bell City Tournament.

For the third consecutive game, the Lady Rebels (20-10, 2-0) also face a stiff challenge.

After topping Class B’s eighth-ranked Hathaway and third-ranked Grand Lake in their last two outings, the Lady Rebels square off with No. 9 Bell City.

As in the case of the boys, the Lady Rebels have already played Bell City twice, losing both times. The Lady Bruins pulled off a 43-39 victory on Oct. 25 before slipping past Midland (28-26) on Dec. 3 in the Lake Arthur Tournament.

In District 4-AAA, Iota will travel to Iowa to take on the Yellow Jackets in a doubleheader.

Iota’s Lady Bulldogs are 19-8 overall and 1-1 in league play while Iowa is 6-16 and 0-2.

On the boys’ side, the Bulldogs (6-14) will be looking for their first district victory after falling to Westlake, 57-55, in their league opener Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets enter the contest at 15-8 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Other games of local interest include Church Point hosting Mamou and Rayne at Northwest. Northside Christian has the night off.
