Early voting is under way in Vermilion Parish for a state-wide election and drainage renewal in the Gueydan area.

Early voting began Saturday at the courthouse to decide who will fill the seat for the Louisiana Public Service Commission. The winner will occupy the seat for the next 18 months.

The courthouse will be the place to vote early from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The courthouse will also be open Saturday.

Running are three candidates: Clyde Holloway (Rep.), Joe McPherson, (Dem.) and Gil Pinac (Rep.).

The regular election will be held April 4.

Also, residents in the Gueydan area will be voting to renew a 10-year 13.42 mills drainage proposition in District 5.

The millage is for constructing, improving, maintaining and operating drainage works in the district.

The millage renewal is also on the early ballot for voters from District 5.
