Editor, The Eunice News:
On behalf of the Bulb & Blossom Garden Club I would like to extend heartfelt thanks for the cooperation we received from the residents of Eunice in our efforts to compete for the Cleanest City Contest Award in District VII.
Mayor Bob Morris gave our club his wholehearted support. Not only did the city pay our entrance fee but we had “Carte Blanche” with City Barn workers. They responded quickly and efficiently to all requests.
And Bill Thompson, how do you do it? Absolutely amazing!
The mayor’s wife-indefatigable!! Jeanita Morris, what can I say? If there was dirt around, you found it, tilled and planted flowers. Not to mention how handy you were with a paint roller.
Kiwanis club members picked up trash (several days) concentrating on Hwy 13 South (the judges entered from there).
The Fire Department (along with Jeanita) re-striped parking lines and curbs downtown.
Sheriff Bobby Guidroz provided inmate crews for clean up. Thanks Deputies Jim & Nicko.
Thank you Tom Voinche for your plugs on your morning television show.
KEUN, through public service announcements, promoted the contest.
Joan McManus , the mayor’s liaison, helped us coordinate meetings, the luncheon and getting the DOTD to Eunice.
Thanks to Lt. Bret Faulkner, Eunice Police Department, for the escort.
Special thanks to Jim Butler and Myra Miller with the Eunice News, who gave us excellent coverage.
The garden club members re-worked all of the planters and beds in the downtown area.
Eunice is now officially entered in the state competition. The judging will take place the first or second week in May. We intend to keep the same route as for district.
Eunice cannot win the state title without the collective efforts of its residences. I challenge everyone to get involved. Make a difference; help keep Eunice clean and FREE OF LITTER (This is a major problem here).
Lastly, if we insulted anyone by calling and asking to clean up, cut grass, weed eat or spruce up flower beds, forgive us. Beware, we may call again!
Our club has made a commitment to beautify the city. We humbly ask that Eunice residences share our zeal and excitement.
Call any club member or City Hall if you would like to help.
