Team Louisiana claims title at Nola Classic

NEW ORLEANS – Team Louisiana AAU basketball (16 & under) from the St. Martin Parish area claimed top honors at the Nola Hoop Easter Classic held April 10-11 at the Alario Center.

Team Louisiana finished first in pool play by beating S.E. La. Dynasty of Hammond 57-32 and N.O. Elite of New Orleans 53-50, earning a first round bye in bracket play.

The area cagers next rolled up three straight wins over Red Storm of Baton Rouge 58-37, N.O. Future 77-43, and N.O. Select 83-73 to lock up the championship trophy.

Team members include Alonzo Williams, Tre Ames, William Leblanc, Montrel Carter and Donovon Williams of Cecilia High School; Adrian Menard of Breaux Bridge Christian Academy; Tremone Williams of Abbeville High; Diante Gardner and Josh Boutte of Westgate High; and Kevin Hardy of St. Louis.

Head coach is Scotty Borel and assistants include Mark Monet, Wilson Leblanc and Alfred Dalcourt Jr.

As a fund-raising project, the team is selling tickets for an official leather football autographed by LSU head coach Les Miles and select Tiger players and an autographed, framed picture of Deuce McAllister, New Orleans Saint and two-time Pro Bowl running back.
