Special Meeting

March 23, 2009

7:00 p.m.

The Mayor and the City Council for the Town of Amite City, Louisiana came together in a special session this 23rd day of March 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held in the meeting room of City Hall, 212 E. Oak Street, Amite, Louisiana. Mayor Goldsby called the meeting to order and asked Ms. Lee for roll call. The following were present: R. E. Goldsby, M.D., Mayor; Neil Currier, Mayor Pro-tem; Council Members Mark Vining, Rose Sumrall, Jonathon Foster, and Walter Daniels III.

Resolution No. 4-2009- Lallie Kemp Medical Center.

RESOLUTION NO. 4 - 2009

WHEREAS, Lallie Kemp Medical Center is a vital provider of medical care to the greater Tangipahoa area; and,

WHEREAS, Lallie Kemp Medical Center addresses the needs of those who are poor and uninsured; and,

WHEREAS, Lallie Kemp Medical Center has a long history of providing excellent medical care to the needy people of this area; and,

WHEREAS, Lallie Kemp Medical Center provides employment for over 400 men and women who are residents of this area; and,

WHEREAS, the qualify of life for hundreds of people will be adversely affected if the mission of the hospital is changed; and,

WHEREAS, the State of Louisiana has expressed its intention to reduce the status of Lallie Kemp Medical Center to an outpatient clinic; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council for the Town of Amite City supports the full funding of Lallie Kemp Medical Center and urges the State of Louisiana to provide that funding so that medical care will be available to the people of Tangipahoa Parish.

On a motion by Mr. Vining, seconded by Mr. Currier, Resolution No. 4 - 2009 was duly adopted by a majority vote of the City Council for the Town of Amite City this 23rd day of March 2009.

Resolution No. 5 – 2009 – Delta Regional Authority Grant.

Mayor Goldsby said the grant will provide funding for improvements to the sewer treatment plant that are needed to accept sewer discharge from Four Star Meats and is tied to an increased number of jobs at the facility. Mayor Goldsby said the town will apply for another grant for a force main from Four Star Meats to the town’s lift station on Hwy. 16. Mr. Currier moved and Mr. Daniels seconded to adopt Resolution No. 5 – 2009. Motion carried without opposition.

RESOLUTION NO. 5 - 2009

WHEREAS, the City Council of the Town of Amite City wishes to submit an application to the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) requesting grant funds which will be used for a project consistent with DRA eligibility requirements; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor of the Town of Amite City, Louisiana, is authorized to make and sign an application, including all understandings and assurances contained therein, with the DRA with respect to the above-referenced project; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the Town of Amite City is authorized and directed to serve as the official representative of the Town of Amite City, to act in connection with the application and to sign any DRA grant documents to bind the Town of Amite City.

The foregoing resolution was read, considered, and is adopted this 23rd day of March 2009.
