
The Crowley Art Association met Monday, April 13th for a grant workshop with Gwen Richard, Community Development Director of the Acadiana Arts Council located in Lafayette. Discussion was of funding for future artistic projects and the current renovations at The Gallery located on 220 N. Parkerson in 2010. Upcoming events planned in the meeting include the co-sponsorship of the Congressional Art Competition on April 18th, Retrospective Gala honoring Mary Beth Welch on May 2nd, Juried Art Competition and the Summer Children’s workshop. The 2009 Yearbook is at the printers. Donations have been received from Carmichael Rentals and the Florence Mouboules Chariatable Trust for prizes for the upcoming Rice Capital Juried Art Competition May 25 - June 26, 2009.
Carmen Orozco, gallery coordinator reported that Gwen Richard with the Acadiana Arts Council recently held a grant writing workshop in The Gallery on April 13. Carmen attended and plans on being made to apply for a Decentralized Arts Funding Grant. Children’s summer workshops are being planned which include drawing, oil painting, decorative painting and creative art projects. Please call The Gallery at 783-3747 for details.
Following the meeting members drove to Janelle’s Art Studio in Lafayette. They toured the studio and met, Janelle Camel, Angie Ackel, Josette delaHoussaye, Marilyn Wagner, Pat Venable, Patrick Soper and Diana Desormeaux who are some of the teachers that are currently teaching at the studio. Janelle also showed many art works completed in the classes. They have a full line of fine art supplies available.
On Saturday, May 2 a Retrospective Gala will be held to feature the work by Mary Beth Welch, deceased member of the CAA. Her children want to share the many beautiful works created by their mother over the last several years. Mary Beth was a regular exhibitor in the Rice Festival Arts and Crafts show and displayed her work in The Gallery.
The next meeting of the CAA will be held on Monday, May 11 at Noon in The Gallery. The public is invited to the meeting and any activity held in The Gallery.
