The Gents took on Class AAAA’s Breaux Bridge Tigers while Notre Dame hosted New Iberia Senior High at ULL’s Tigue Moore Field.
The Gents slipped past the Tigers, 10-8, while the Pios were less fortunate, falling to the Yellow Jackets 15-3.
In Breaux Bridge, Crowley jumped out to a 10-2 advantage after five and a half innings of play but had to hold off a late rally to secure the victory.
The Tigers plated six runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 10-8 and then had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh before Tyler Dupuis got out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly out.
Dupuis earned the save, giving up just one hit and one walk in two innings.
Jake Trahan was credited with the victory after giving up no runs on two hits and one walk through three innings. He struck out five.
Taylor Bertrand led the Gents’ 10-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Corde McCall followed with a 2-for-4 performance that included a home run and four RBI while Dupuis had a single and a double.
Taylor Doughty drove in two runs with a triple, Chad Hoffpauir had an RBI single and Justin Desselle had one hit.
In Lafayette, NISH pounded out 12 runs (four earned) in the first inning and never looked back in the Yellow Jackets’ thumping of Notre Dame.
Blaine Richard led the Pios with two hits and two RBI while Luke Bourgeois singled and drove in one run. Bryant Gilbert also had a triple in the losing effort.
Acadia Parish will be represented by four local teams in the upcoming playoffs that officially kick off Thursday afternoon.
Notre Dame earned the area’s top seed when the playoff brackets were released Tuesday.
The Pios are the No. 6 seed in Class AAA and will play host to district rival and No. 27 seed Rayne Friday at 6 o’clock.
Crowley High enters the playoffs as the No. 26 seed and will travel to Kaplan Thursday to take on the No. 7 seeded Pirates at 6 o’clock.
Northside Christian earned the No. 7 seed in the Class C playoffs and received a bye in the first round.
They will play host to Hackberry next week but a date and a time have yet to be determined as of press time.
