The Rayne High Lady Wolves fell just short of the State Tournament once again this volleyball season as they fell to St. Michael’s of Baton Rouge Monday afternoon in straight games, 19-24-21.

Hitting the road for their second-straight contest of the playoffs, the No. 12-ranked Lady Wolves pushed the envelope, but fell short against the No. 5-ranked Baton Rouge team.

In the loss, Rayne was led by Caitlyn Peltier (7 kills, 2 assists, 15 digs), Annie Simoneaux (21 digs, 2 kills), and Mariel Meche (6 kills, 15 digs).

In their first round last Wednesday near Hammond, the Lady Wolves defeated Loranger in three games (18-13-21).

Leading the net attack for the Lady Wolves against Loranger were Mariel Meche (17 kills, 34 digs, 1 ace), Taylor Venable (13 kills, 7 digs, 9 blocks) and Caitlyn Peltier (9 kills, 16 digs, 4 assists, 1 ace).

The Rayne defense was led by Annie Simoneaux (18 digs, 5 kills, 1 ace) and Shelby LeBlanc (4 digs, 2 aces).

Setting up the Rayne offense were Kayla Fontenot (21 assists, 9 digs, 2 aces) and Erin Savoy (13 assists, 3 kills, 9 digs, 1 ace).
