A 48-year-old Rayne man was killed Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 90 after leaving American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

Brian Demette had just left the hospital and was walking eastbound on a dark part of the highway when the accident occurred.

“The accident is currently under investigation, however, at this point we don’t expect any charges to be filed,” said Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson.“We don’t suspect alcohol played a factor in the accident on the part of the driver or the victim but we are required to run toxicology tests and are awaiting the results.”

Demette was a patient at the hospital and had just been released.
