
This was the scene of a fatal accident which happened Saturday night on LA Highway 35 just south of Church Point. Killed in the crash was twenty four year-old Petra Danielle Briscoe. Briscoe was killed when, the vehicle she was riding in ran off the road and rolled over. Briscoe was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. The driver was twenty-nine year-old Matthew McBride of Church Point. McBride was arrested and charged with DWI 1st Offense, Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation, and being an Unlicensed Driver. McBride was booked into the Acadia Parish Correctional Center. Blood and urine samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology results.

According to the investigating troopers, on January 23, 2010, shortly after 8 p.m., a 1996 Toyota Camry, driven by twenty nine year-old Matthew McBride of Church Point, was traveling north on LA 35 near milepost 40. McBride failed to negotiate a right curve and ran off of the east side of the road. The Camry struck a utility pole and rolled over on its roof. Briscoe was partially ejected through the driver side window, and was killed.
McBride was arrested and charged with DWI 1st Offense, Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation, and being an Unlicensed Driver. McBride was booked into the Acadia Parish Correctional Center. Blood and urine samples were obtained and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for toxicology results. The crash remains under investigation.
Funeral services have been set for Petra Briscoe at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Guidry Funeral Home in Church Point.
