Of the 14 members of the Rayne High Wrestling Team who attended the Division III State Wrestling Tournament last weekend at the Pontchartrain Center in Metairie, 10 placed in their weight class, two champions were named, and 146 team points were collected for a third place state finish for the Wolves.
In their respective weight class, Adam Menard and Shelby Thibodeaux captured state championships. Menard, claimed his 140 lbs. title with a win over Tim Baudoin of North Vermilion, while Thibodeaux collected his top spot as he defeated Hunter Arnett of Redemptorist. Both placed third during last year’s state event, while the team improved their finish up from fifth place last year.
Trevor Carriere repeated with a third place finish at 171 lbs., Jermil Rogers claimed fourth place at 189 lbs., and John Reynolds placed fifth at 152 lbs.
Finishing sixth in their weight classes were Jacob Stelly 112 lbs., Austin Bohne 125 lbs., Austin Meche 135 lbs., Andrew Abshire 215 lbs. and Jake Cormier 285 lbs.
Other Rayne High wrestlers were Landyn Thibodeaux 103 lbs., Cody Manuel 119 lbs., Andre Falcon 130 lbs. and Keavin Richard 160 lbs.
Taking top team honors were 1st place Brusly, 2nd place Evangel, and North Vermilion in a third place tie with the Wolves.
