City officials to attend LMA district meeting on Tuesday

DeQUINCY – Rayne’s mayor and City Council members will gather with other area municipal officials Tuesday, July 13, to learn how this year’s regular legislative session has impacted the state’s towns and cities.

The Louisiana Municipal Association meeting, hosted by DeQuincy Mayor Lawrence Henagan, LMA District “G” vice president, will begin at 6:00 p.m. at JCE/DeQuincy Home Health Center, 510 South Grand Avenue, DeQuincy.

District “G” consists of the municipalities of Acadia, Allen, Calcasieu, Iberia, Jeff Davis, and Vermilion parishes.

LMA Executive Director Tom Ed McHugh will describe the highlights of the Legislature’s 2010 regular session as it impacts municipal governments. Also set to make reports are LMA President Susan Menard, mayor of Cankton, LMA First Vice President Bobby Washington, mayor of Cullen, and LMA Second Vice President Glenn Brasseaux, mayor of Carencro.

Scheduled topics include an update on LMA services and programs, the LMA’s 73rd annual convention set for August 5-7 in New Orleans, and the National League of Cities’ 87th Annual Congress of Cities conference set for November 30-December 4 in Denver, CO.

The district’s members will elect a district vice president to represent them on the 2010-2011 LMA Executive Board, beginning in August.
