Regional Legion tournament slate pushed back

LAFAYETTE – The 2010 American Legion Southwest Regional Tournament began today with two games being completed before afternoon storms forced one contest to be halted in the fifth inning and the other to be postponed until Sunday morning.

The St. Landry Bank Indians made short work of the Creole Braves in the tournament opener, taking a 15-0 victory in seven innings.

The New Iberia Cajuns won their first-round game, scoring two runs in the 10th inning to upend the Sulphur Drillers, 4-2.

District 7-East runnerup Eunice was leading the American Glass Athletics (Acadiana) 5-0 when play was stopped due to heavy rains.

The Eunice-Acadiana game will resume Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with Saturday's scheduled nigthcap between the Crowley Millers and they Heymann Chiefs (Comeaux) to follow around 10:30.

There will be four more games played to round out the second day of action.

The Creole Braves will take on the Eunice/Acadiana loser at 1 p.m. while the Sulphur Drillers will take on the loser of the Crowley/Comeaux game at 3:30. Both contests are elimination games.

The final two games will be winner's bracket contests.

St. Landry Bank will take on the winner of the Eunice/Acadiana game at 6 o'clock while New Iberia will take on the Crowley/Comeaux winner at 8:30.
