A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for Murphy John Guidry, 84, who died August 3, 2010 at the Crowley Rehabilitation Hospital.

Fr. Jared Suire associate pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. A rosary will be led by Sr. Justina Baker at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.

Mr. Murphy was born in Kaplan and resided in Crowley. He was a graduate of S.L.I which is now University of Louisiana of Lafayette with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1950. Mr. Guidry served during World War II with the U.S. Army. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #6720, a Past Post Commander of the Acadia Post # 15 American Legion, and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #1318. Mr. Guidry was President of Guidry Insurance Agency. He served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Acadia Independent Agents Association for 26 years, and also served on the American Legion Hospital Board for 40 years having served as Secretary/ Treasurer, President, and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Martha Broussard Guidry of Crowley; one daughter, Peggy Guidry Touchet and her husband Joe of Crowley; three sisters, Irene G. Simon and her husband O’Neil of Lyons Point, Dorothy G. Sztroin of Gueydan, and Effie G. Broussard of Gueydan; one brother, Chester P. Guidry and his wife, Ida of Crowley; three grandchildren, Timothy J. Roy of Crowley, Angela Roy Gage of Round Rock, TX, and Dustin Guidry of Crowley; and two great-grandchildren, Lantz Thibodeaux of Crowley, and Nathan Gage of Round Rock, TX.

Mr. Guidry is preceded in death by his son, James Keith Guidry; his parents, Ozone and Louise Hebert Guidry; and two brothers-in-law, Michael Sztroin, and J.C. Broussard.

The family would like to thank the staffs of the American Legion Hospital, and Crowley Rehabilitation Hospital, and Dr. M.N. Katira for the special care given to him during his illness.
