GUEYDAN - It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of Byron Lee Simon, 47, announces his passing Tuesday afternoon from his home in Mermentau. Funeral services for Byron will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Jason Vidrine officiating. The Simon family request visitation be observed at the funeral home on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and resume on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. until the time of his services. A rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Byron will be laid to rest in the Gueydan Cemetery.

Byron Lee was born in Welsh to Herman and Yvonne Thibodeaux Simon in August of 1962. He was currently running for Chief of Police in Mermentau. Byron enjoyed helping the people of his community. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the great outdoors and hunting and fishing. Byron will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Leaving behind to mourn his loss and cherish his memories are his beloved parents, Herman and Yvonne T. Simon of Morse; three children, Destin (Brittany) Simon of Lake Arthur, Dacota Broussard of Gueydan, and Destiny Simon of Lake Arthur; three brothers, Elrod Simon of Erath, Elroi Simon of Abbeville, and Tyron Simon of Burleson, Texas; and his four beautiful grandchildren, Gavin Viator, Landon LeBleu, Kandon Simon, and Brantley Simon.

Carrying Byron to his eternal resting place will be Destin, Elrod, Elroi, Tyron, and Heath Simon and Robert Bertrand.
