The death of a Jennings man continues to be investigated.

The Jeff Davis Parish Medical Examiner said Friday that Jayce Ryan Dupuis, 21, died of a single gunshot wound to the head, but no further details were released.

Dupuis’s body was found Thursday afternoon. He went missing Sunday morning. The events of the morning of Dupuis’s disappearance are also not fully understood. At about 1 a.m. the vehicle, a dark colored 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck, Dupuis was believed to have been driving struck a light pole in the Wal-Mart in Jennings parking lot, causing a lot of damage to the vehicle. Following that, a witness saw Dupuis abandon his vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. on foot leaving the area of the Jaenke Bridge on LA 97, just north of Jennings.

Authorities have not said whether they believe the wound was self-inflicted.

There is no "medical examiner" in Jeff Davis Parish.

They do have a "coroner", however. The two terms are

NOT interchangeable.
