A native of Indian Bayou and a 1953 Valedictorian graduate of Indian Bayou High School, Bertha received the American Legion Award for academics of her class where she served as class secretary. Bertha moved to Crowley beginning her working career and in 1955 married “the love of her life” Joseph “Joe” Marceaux and from that union was born Allen Ray, Robert James and David Lee. In the early 1960’s they moved their young family to Vinton. Bertha later that decade became a graduate of “Buddy Ben Florist” where she began her career as a licensed florist working at Sulphur Florist a number of years and Maries in Vinton as well as Krogers in Orange, Texas a short time. She incorporated her love of flowers with a secondary career of cake decorating and she owned “The Party Shop” which supplied many with cake and party supplies. Bertha was a very involved in her community volunteering for over 25 years with Food For Seniors and assisting the Knights of Columbus with Bingo for 30 years. She was an active member of St Joseph Catholic Church where she decorated the church for various events and seasons for 6 years. In her retirement years, she and Joe found time for travel and their journey took them not only locally but to foreign soil numerous times including France, Belgium and Rome. Bertha enjoyed all of their travels but especially the three trips aboard Cruise Ships.
She is survived by her husband Joseph “Joe” Marceaux; son Allen Ray Marceaux; grandchildren, Angela Renee Overton and husband Brent, Michelle Jones and husband Christopher, Jennifer Lea Simien and Larry Phillip Marceaux and wife Angela; great grandchildren Paiglyne Jade and Tynan Brahn Marceaux, Christian Blaze and Alyssah Eve Overton, Gavin and Landon Marceaux, Bryce, Victoria and Joshua Jones, Chasity Marceaux, Keane Gibson and Kyrah Simien and “one on the way”; brother Dewitt Villejoin; sisters Laura Mae Romero, Shirley Rose Landry and Emily Marie Bailey.
She is preceded in death by her sons Robert James Marceaux and David Lee Marceaux; sisters Luva “Lou” Thibodeaux and Susie Broussard and parents Mays and Eunice Villejoin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2010 in St. Joseph Catholic Church under direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Father Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Crowley. Visitation will be in the funeral home from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary and from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
